Data and Information Privacy

The University of Utah Campus Store (the “Campus Store,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you visit or shop through store.utah.edu, uredzone.com, related Campus Store digital services, or when you otherwise interact with us, such as by contacting customer service, participating in a promotion, or subscribing to marketing communications.
The Campus Store is a unit of the University of Utah. This policy supplements the University of Utah’s broader Privacy Statement and applies specifically to Campus Store customer and website interactions. It does not replace notices that apply to University student records, health information, employment information, or other University services.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
We may collect personal information that you provide directly to us, including:
- Contact information, such as your name, email address, phone number, billing address, and shipping address;
- Purchase and transaction information, such as items purchased, order history, delivery or pickup preferences, returns, exchanges, gift-card activity, and transaction status;
- Account information, such as login credentials and account preferences, when you create or use an online account;
- Communications, such as questions, feedback, customer-service requests, reviews, and other messages you send to us;
- Marketing preferences and permissions, including email and text-message subscription choices; and
- Other information you choose to provide in connection with an order, event, promotion, service request, or survey.
Payment-card information is processed through authorized payment-service providers. The Campus Store does not intentionally retain full payment-card numbers or security codes after a transaction is authorized, except as permitted and protected by applicable payment-card standards and law.
Information Collected Automatically
When you use our websites, we and service providers acting on our behalf may automatically collect information about your device and use of our websites, including:
- IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, language, and approximate location derived from an IP address;
- Pages viewed, products searched for or viewed, links clicked, referring or exit pages, and dates, times, and duration of visits;
- Cookie, pixel, tag, local-storage, and similar technology information; and
- Information used to help prevent fraud, secure our services, and diagnose technical issues.
Information from Other Sources
We may receive limited information from service providers and business partners that help us process payments, prevent fraud, deliver orders, operate our websites, measure marketing performance, or maintain accurate customer-service records.
How We Use Information
We use personal information as reasonably necessary to:
- Process purchases, payments, shipping, pickup, returns, exchanges, refunds, and customer-service requests;
- Operate and maintain customer accounts and website features;
- Send transactional communications, such as order confirmations, shipping updates, service notices, and responses to your questions;
- Send marketing communications where permitted by law and consistent with your preferences;
- Improve our products, services, website experience, merchandising, communications, and operations;
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, misuse, security incidents, and other unlawful activity;
- Comply with applicable law, University policy, payment-card requirements, record-retention requirements, and lawful requests; and
- Protect the rights, property, safety, and security of the University of Utah, the Campus Store, our customers, and others.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share personal information only as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including with:
- Authorized University of Utah personnel and offices with a legitimate business need to support Campus Store operations or comply with University obligations;
- Service providers that perform services on our behalf, such as payment processing, fraud prevention, order fulfillment, shipping, email or text-message delivery, website hosting, analytics, customer support, and technology support;
- Professional advisers, auditors, insurers, and financial institutions when necessary for legitimate operational, legal, or financial purposes;
- Government authorities, law enforcement, courts, or other parties when required by law or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, property, or security; and
- Other parties with your direction or consent.
Service providers may use personal information only as authorized by the University of Utah and as necessary to provide their services, subject to applicable contractual, legal, and security requirements.
Public Records
Because the Campus Store is part of a public university, certain records may be subject to the Utah Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) or other applicable records laws. Requests for records are evaluated under those laws and applicable University policies. The University protects records classified as private, controlled, protected, or otherwise restricted from disclosure as required by law.
Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to make our websites work, remember preferences, maintain security, understand how visitors use our websites, and help measure the effectiveness of our communications and marketing. Some cookies are necessary for website functionality; others are optional.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Blocking or deleting cookies may affect certain website features, including shopping-cart, account, or checkout functionality. Where required by law, we will provide an appropriate consent or preference tool for non-essential cookies and similar technologies.
We may use analytics and advertising tools provided by third parties. These providers may collect information about activity on our websites and, where permitted, may use cookies or similar technologies to measure campaigns or provide interest-based advertising. You can learn about industry advertising choices through the Digital Advertising Alliance, the Network Advertising Initiative, and Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Opting out does not prevent you from seeing advertising; it may reduce personalization.
Marketing Communications
You may choose whether to receive promotional emails or text messages from the Campus Store. You can unsubscribe from promotional emails by using the unsubscribe link in the message. For text messages, follow the opt-out instructions in the message, such as replying STOP. Opting out of promotional communications does not affect transactional messages that are necessary to fulfill an order or provide requested services.
Text-message programs are also governed by the Campus Store’s applicable Messaging Terms & Conditions. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies.
Your Privacy Choices and Requests
Depending on where you live and the nature of your relationship with us, you may have rights under applicable law or University policy to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or information about personal information we maintain about you. You may also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent and opt out of direct marketing as described above.
How to Make a Privacy or Data-Deletion Request
To submit a Campus Store privacy request, email help@store.utah.edu. Use the subject line “Privacy Request” or “Privacy Request – Deletion”, as applicable. In your message, please include:
- Your full name;
- The email address, phone number, account, or order number associated with the request, if available;
- A clear description of the request, such as access, correction, deletion, or marketing opt-out; and
- Any details that will help us locate the relevant records.
To protect your information, we may ask for reasonable verification before acting on a request. Please do not send passwords, full payment-card numbers, card security codes, or other highly sensitive information by email.
After we verify your request, we will review it and respond as required by applicable law and University policy. Where deletion is appropriate, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify relevant personal information in Campus Store systems. We may retain or limit access to information when necessary to complete a transaction; meet tax, accounting, payment, fraud-prevention, audit, legal, records-retention, or security obligations; resolve disputes; enforce agreements; or comply with University policy or applicable law. We will explain any material limitation that applies to your request.
This request process applies to Campus Store customer and website information. It does not replace processes that govern student education records, University accounts, employment records, health information, or other University services. Student education records are governed by applicable University policy and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Data Retention & Security
Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide services, complete transactions, meet legal and financial obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain appropriate business records, and comply with University and State of Utah record-retention requirements. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and the reason it was collected. This may mean that certain information is retained after a deletion request has been processed.
Data Security
The University of Utah uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. These safeguards include controls appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and are supported by University information-security policies and procedures. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Third-Party Links and Services
Our websites may link to third-party websites, services, social-media platforms, or applications. Those third parties have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for their content or practices. Please review their privacy notices before providing personal information.
International Visitors
The Campus Store is based in the United States. If you access our websites or provide information from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location. Individuals whose interactions are covered by the University of Utah’s GDPR Privacy Notice should also review that notice for additional information about applicable rights and how to exercise them.
Children’s Privacy
Our websites are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13 without appropriate authorization. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact us so we can review and address the concern.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or University policy. When we make changes, we will post the updated policy on this page and revise the effective date above. For material changes, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
